Qian Songyan Landscape Painting Art Language Research

Qian Songyan is an outstanding painter in the art history of new China in the twentieth Century.He is one of the main representatives of the "new Jinling school".The classic Red Rock and Changshu Farmland are his most famous works.He is very representative in the exploration of the artistic language.In this paper,from the perspective of pen and ink language,based on the works of Qian Songyan unique landscape painting art language,analyzing his modeling,the fine-brush strokes technique and showcases the artist's acute adeptness in maneuvering theme,composition and colours from series works of Yan ' an,Zhanggong Cave,pine trees,red rocks and Changshu farmlands in different periods,which manifests Mastering the traditional techniques,drawing from direct observation of daily life,and integrating colours into traditional ink paintings,he creates a vivid style of solidity and density in structure and freshness and moisture in brush-and-ink and his unprecedented brushwork mastery derived from Chinese cultural relics.Upon examining Qian Songyan's eventual explosive transformation in landscapes,let us bring back our attention to his artistic evolution.Deeply rooted in traditional Chinese calligraphy and panting techniques,with great accomplishment in literature and knowledge of painting,integrating his unique taste and original view,sketched in plein air style of the French Impressionists,all contributed to a new era of Chinese painting by Qian Songyan.Researching his aesthetic principles on brushwork enables later generations of artists to discover more plausible paths for Chinese painting transmutation within tradition.
