As representatives of two literary schools-"The Movement" and "Them" in the twentieth century,Philip Larkin’s poetry usually observes daily life in the attitude of pure realism; and Han Dong seeks for poetic thought from daily life, their poetry both express concern for poetics of ordinary life.This paper is based on close reading of Larkin’s and Han Dong’s poetry. Combining their poetic ideas, and taking ordinariness writing as the comparison point, it analyzes similarities and differences expressed in two aspects-theme and language in their poetry through parallel comparison. This paper is in four chapters:the first chapter mainly indicates the origin and significance of topic selecting, as well as their present research situation, innovativeness and research scope. The second chapter analyzes the writing background of their poetry, finds out the reason why their poetry represent similar appearance through investigating writing background:refuting on the previous generations of poets and influence of historical background make their poetry show attention on the ordinary commonly. The third chapter compares similarities and differences in subject matter of ordinary people,gender,landscape and goods of their poetry combining with specific text. The fourth chapter compares the language of their poetry; first, summarizing the presence of clarity and details of life in the language of their poetry under ordinariness writing; second, emphasizing on comparison of their calm lyric, analyzing the calm lyric of their poetry formed by different types like words and expressions, attitude and emotion. Epilogue reiterates the research significance and limitations of this paper on the basis of summarizing the full paper.In short, through putting the above mentioned poets in the comparison visual can firstly help we have a deeper understanding on the ordinariness which is their common aesthetic characteristics; second, in the comparison, they both show unique aesthetic value and also keep an eye on each other, which provides different perspectives to poetry reading, and pushes poetry research to a deeper level.
