With the development of each country all over the world, the communicating activities among them become more and more, especially on the aspect of science and technology, which communication become closer and closer. China as the biggest developing country in the world, it pay more attention on the aspect of scientific and technological communication in order to promote its own strength. Thus, English for science and technology has got much attention. That is because, as is known to all, the most scientific literatures are written in English, that is to say, what will have a direct influence on the reader’s reading effect is the translation quality of English for science and technology. Thus, how to guarantee or impove the translation quality of English for science and technology better become a question that shoud be resolved. With the growing development of Relevance Theory, it can instruct translator how to guarantee or impove the translation quality of English for science and technology better, especially the ostensive inferential model and optimal relevance principle of Relevance Theroy.Relevance Theory is put forwarded by Deirdre Wilson and Dan Sperber, according to Relevance Theory, verbal communication is viewed as an ostensive inferential cognitive process, and the translation focuses on the relationship between communication and cognition. So, Ernst August Gutt who put forwarded Translation and Relevance Theory. He believes that translation is a verbal communication which is defined as a double ostensive inferential process. In the first ostensive inferential process, the translator plays the role is receiver, at this time, the task of translator is to try his/her best to infer the real meaning by receiving the ostensive stimulus which is given by the author. In the second ostensive inferential process, the translator plays the role is communicator, at this time, the task of translator is to convey the real meaning of the text to the target language readers by using the optimal relevance principle. The translator plays different roles in translating process and accepts different tasks. As long as the translator complishes different tasks when he/her plays different roles, the translation quality can be guaranteed and promoted.Thus, the English for science and technology effects of information transfe, accurate content and standard expression are the key elements and norms of English for scienceand technology translation. So, how to understand and translate scientific and technological texts exactly from the perspective of ostensive inferential model in Relevance Theory becomes more important.This thesis chooses from the perspective of ostensive inferential model in Relevance Theory to research translation of English for science and technology, which main aim is to help the translator understand and grasp the real meaning of the source text more exactly, and to promote the translation veracity. In the past, most scholars pay more attention to from the perpective of optimal relevance principle or global perspective of Relevance Theory to research translation of English for science and technology, howerver, the innovativeness of the thesis is to choose from the perspectice of ostensive inferential model to research English for science and technology translation, in order to realize accurate target positioning research, make the research focus even more effective. This paper chooses from the perspective of ostensive inferential model in Relevance Theory to research translation of English for science and technology, which main significances are: 1. it can promote our cognition for the translation; 2. it can boost up instructing function of the Relevance Theory; 3. at the same time, it will help the translator translate the text more exactly, and it will help Chinese people understand and learn science and technology from other countries more easily, and our country will pomote its own strength and its position in the world. Thus, chooseing from the perspective of ostensive inferential model in Relevance Theory to research translation of English for science and technology which is more significant.
