The ultimate aim of’ Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language’ is to develop the ability of using Chinese to communicate. Comparing with’shuo, du, xie’,the ability ’ting’,as the foundation of communication, is the most difficult language skill for learners to master. If we can find the difficulties and the obstacles during the teaching process, analyze the composition factors, and then change teaching strategies, the effect of listening teaching will be improved greatly.In the intensive Chinese teaching mode, listening learning has some special features. Preparatory Chinese Education is a typical representative of intensive Chinese teaching. The difference between preppies with language students is that preppies could further their majors learning only if their Chinese levels reach the certain requirement. So to improve the preppies’listening level is necessary. Therefore, this paper takes the preppies as the object of study, attempting to discuss the difficulties and the barriers of elementary and intermediate foreign students in the intensive Chinese teaching mode, and then help them overcome the difficult barriers accordingly.4chapters included:Chapter 1, as an introduction, introduces the background and significance of the topic, review of the research, as well as the contents and methods of the research.Chapter 2 finds out typical errors from many mock exams, and then establish wrong question database. And then knows the intra-linguistic difficulties and obstacles by analyzing the wrong questions from different angles.Chapter 3 makes questionnaires and individual interviews to know students’ learning and teachers’ teaching situation. On the one hand, from the subjective aspect, author knows intra-linguistic difficulties and obstacles; on the other hand, by analyzing listening methods and skills of students as well as teaching strategies of teachers to know extra-linguistic difficulties and obstacles.Chapter 4 analyzes the reasons for difficulties and obstacles according to the analysis of wrong question database as well as the results of questionnaire and in-dept interview, and thus attempt to put forward some teaching suggestions.
