The Study Of Semantic-phonetic Compound Characters In Modern General Standard Chinese Characters

Semantic-phonetic compound characters have been the main components of Chinese characters since the period of seal script, and their particular regularity reflects the motivation of Chinese characters. Scholars have continued to study the subject since ancient times. General Standard Chinese Characters Table has included Chinese characters set in contemporary society, and it’s the lastest standard and code of modern Chinese characters. But there is no study of semantic-phonetic compound characters based on this range up to now. This paper bases on the 8105 general standard Chinese characters and surveys them by three steps to picks up the specific scope of semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters, then figure up the sentimental symbol and the phonological symbol, consisting of the number and the classification of them, and the number of characters they formed. After that, this paper calculated the degree of sentimental symbol indicating the character’s meaning and the degree of the phonological symbol indicating the character’s pronunciation. Based on this, this paper analyzed the characteristics of the character’s in modern general standard Chinese characters, the sentimental symbol and the phonological symbol.This paper consists seven parts:The first part is introduction. This part explained the conceptions of semantic-phonetic compound characters, general standard Chinese characters, semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters, Chinese character component, sentimental symbol and phonological symbol. It also simply included the study of modern semantic-phonetic compound characters, then stated the purpose and signification, the methods, and the innovation.The second part introduced the method of picking up semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters. It contains three steps, including surveying the semantic-phonetic compound characters in the characters root, surveying the semantic-phonetic structure and surveying the modern semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters.The third part is the general information of semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters. It enumerates the results of the survey in chapter 2, including the collection situation of the 8105 characters in different reference books, the number of semantic-phonetic structure, the pronunciation and semantic expressing condition and the specific scope of semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters.The forth part analyzed the phonological symbol of semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters. It mainly contains the general condition, classification, characteristics, the ability of forming characters and the degree of indicating the pronunciation.The fifth part analyzed the sentimental symbol of semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters. It also contains the general condition, classification, characteristics, the ability of forming characters and the degree of indicating the meaning.The sixth part analyzed the semantic-phonetic compound characters in modern general standard Chinese characters based on the survey results. It is the summary of the results, introducing the general condition of the semantic-phonetic compound characters, then analyzed the systematicness from its regularity and distinctivenessThe seventh part is conclusion. This part summarized the whole paper and pointed out the deficiencies of the research.
