This report is based on the author’s 22-days’working experience at a therapy center as well as her understanding of the theory of interpreter’s subjectivity and intersubjectivity. The reporting author was commissioned by Shandong Huihe Autism Therapy Center on a relaying interpreting program for two American musical therapy teachers and the Chinese management and faculty from August 11-15,2014 to March 4-21,2015. She draws real cases from her work and demonstrates the necessity and importance of interpreter’s subjectivity and intersubjectivity in liaison interpreting. The report consists of five sections, including an introduction, her task description in Chapter One, process description in Chapter Two, elaboration of interpreter’s subjectivity and intersubjectivity in Chapter Three, feedback and self-reflections in Chapter Four, and a conclusion. On informal occasions such as escort interpreting and liaison interpreting, according to the author, the employment of interpreter’s subjectivity and intersubjectivity is of vital importance to the accomplishment of interpreting tasks. The report analyzes the employment of interpreter’s subjectivity and intersubjectivity and illustrates three types of subjectivity awareness such as empowerment, visibility and non-neutrality by analyzing a series of interpreting cases. She sums up some solutions, through feedback from her clients and self-reflection, as how to overcome cultural differences, avoid risks of misunderstandings, and deal with unexpected pressure. These are discussed in terms of the interpreter’s ethics. In the conclusion it is stressed that interpreter’s subjectivity ought to be counteracted with intersubjectivity and some balance should be struck for optimum results.
