Liaison interpreting,as one of the major forms of interpreting activities, occurs on many occasions such as business negotiations, exhibitions and fairs, guest reception and dining, etc. It is characterized by the features of dual-way interpreting, higher rate of unexpectedness, and comparative imbalance, which requires the interpreter to be well-equipped with theoretical literacy and capable of handling the problems encountered in the interpreting activity. The author,as a liaison interpreter, interpreted for the 2018 R+T Asia(Shanghai)Trade Show and this report is written based on this task. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the background information of the trade show and the company the author worked for,the clients and direct users of the interpreting, the preparations and challenges of the task.Chapter Two describes the whole process of the task. The author carries out reception, business negotiation and banquet interpreting and acts as a gatekeeper,co-interlocutor,and coordinator.Chapter Three delineates the theoretical framework of interpreter's subjectivity chiefly from the aspects of its development and three criteria, namely visibility,non-neutrality and empowerment.Chapter Four focuses on the application of theoretical strategies in relation to interpreter's subjectivity. While carrying out the task, the author encounters some challenges, such as local accents of customers from different countries or regions, disputes on business negotiation and confrontations out of cultural differences. To address these problems, the author takes full advantage of the interpreter's subjectivity of visibility,non-neutrality and empowerment, and adopts some interpreting strategies such as amplification, information filtering and turn-taking control. The last Chapter is to present the feedback from the clients and the author's self-reflection.
