Object: To evaluate the efficacy of expressive writing therapy on anxiety freshmen;investigate the effect of emotional involvement level on intervention results.Method: we use State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI), China Colleges Students Adjustment Scale( CCSAS) and Demographic variable scale to do a survey research among random sample of 500 freshmen who were enrolled in September of 2015. Then we screen out high anxiety group, and distribute them randomly into three groups: expressive writing group with emotion deeply involved, expressive writing group with emotion lightly involved and control group. Subjects in writing groups keep writing for successive three days and have posttest and tracking test. Subjects in control group only finish the twice tracking tests at the appropriate time. Compare the differences of the results of three groups.Result: 1.The anxiety of freshman in the college have no significant difference in gender, origins of the students, and writing behavior.2.The school adjustment of college student have differences in gender, writing behavior but no difference in origins of students.The adaption level of females is significantly higher than males. Freshmen with writing behavior are significantly higher in scores of interpersonal adaption, study adaption; career choosing adaption than students without writing behavior.3.The anxiety level of college freshmen has significantly negative correlation with school adjustment.4. The expressive writing therapy has a good effect on anxiety freshmen. The expressive writing groups’ anxiety level(STAI) is significantly lower than control group.5.The anxiety of emotion deeply involved is significantly lower than the emotion lightly involved group. 6.Different cases have different writing styles including ways of cognitive processing, ways of narration, attributive pattern and change of emotion.Conclusion: 1. Anxiety level of the college freshmen is closely related with school adjustment.2. Expressive writing therapy is effective on reducing the anxiety of freshmen.3.Level of emotion involvement is one of the important effective factors.4.other effectivefactors may include ways of cognitive processing, ways of narration, attributive pattern and change of emotion...
