Chinese metropolis film is the most true, vivid image of metropolitan advancement. On the one hand, it record and reflect the modern urban life, on the other hand it forms a new cultural space and social relationship signed by modern city. As a visual symbol image of urban landscape, the urban movie contains rich connotation. Its development history reflects the modernization, urbanization and internationalization of Chinese society, with the imagination about modern, world, future, globalization in new space of modern people.After entering the new century, the creation of the urban become prosperous, such as a story of LALA’s promotion, Finding Mr. Right, Love is not blind, My Old Classmate. This kind of new urban films start a trend in Chinese movie circle. This thesis regards new urban films as a media text to understand the city, starting from the global imagination as well as trans-regional filming of film industry in the new century, thinking about how these movies create the image of the urban space and how they imagine it in era of globalization, pondering the relationship between urban image and culture, the imagination and social reality.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter, the introduction with key words new urban films, spatial imagination,starts from documentation, explaining the study cause. In the theory framework of film aesthetics and urban research, the thesis summarizes the images of cities, define the research object and range, and set up an analytical framework.The second chapter, I regard the movies as a way to comprehend the city, it witnessed the development and change of urban in the era of globalization. This chapter contrasts the sixth generation and new group in urban writing, with the selection of urban space, the similarities and differences and change trend in manifestation mode, analyze the new urban urban vision of film structure and cultural orientation.The third chapter analyses the landscape for living in the movie from the perspective of cultural study. It studies the symbolization and representation of modern urban space in the film, and explore the intertext relationship between films and real city. Then it points out that most films deliberately hide the reality of city life, reflecting the deficiency of the complexity and ambiguity in landscape for living in consumerism era.The fourth chapter analyzes the exotic landscape in the movie. The road as a cathartic field and the illusion beyond the physical world in the film, work not only as a background, but also play an important part in advancing the story as well as bridging characters’ gap.The fifth chapter sorts out the nostalgic landscape in youth movie, inspecting how the film show the past and future, making a thorough inquiry in the nostalgic mentality of the young and middle-aged audience as well as consumption based on nostalgia psychological in the post-modernist context.
