Chinese Loanwords In Thai Language And Its Meaning Changes

Language wouldn’t have developed as a separate entity without the influence of the other language, Looking back to the long human history, such activities as economic and cultural communication etc, can more or less bring about the contact between different groups. Language borrowing is the obvious effect of language contact, lexical borrowing counts most under the language elements borrowing.Two times of large-scale Han nationality immigration in the history, and the continue contact between China and Thai, a lot of words from Chinese were borrowed into Thai, these words mainly from southern dialects lexical, especially Chaoshan dialect, which scope is very extensive, involves food,supplies,material, animal, plant, office, dress, customs, character, action etc.Thai borrowed Chinese words mainly adopted transliteration, semantic occurred different level changes after borrowing, this article attempts to use language contact as the theoretical basis to study specificly of the Chinese Loanwords change its semantic in Thai language environment and explorate the law and reason of the loanwords semantic changing in non-Chinese environment.Introduction of the paper mention the theoretical basis, methods and meaning; the first chapter mainly reviews the three historical times that the contact between Chinese language and Thai language, as well as the sources and reasons of Chinese Loanwords borrowed in Thai; the second chapter is the statistician of Chinese Loanwords in semantic types and Thai translations; the third chapter explore Chinese Loanwords its law and reason of semantic evolution in Thai language environment; in the fourth chapter, combined with the meaning of Chinese Loanwords in current using to put forward suggestions on Teaching Chinese in Thailand; the last part is the conclusion.In a word, language contact is witness of social and cultural exchanges,as well as a special form of language development, language contact will necessarily cause a certain influence on the target language, On the one hand, loanwords will rich the Thai lexical system, enhance the language expression; on the other hand, the Chinese loanwords will adapted the change between language rules and pragmatic needs of borrowed words , If we make use of the rules of language borrowed semantic development and change, we will be the guiding in Chinese language teaching practice.
