Research On The Reform Of Academic System Of Guangxi In Late Qing Dynasty

The academy, a unique educational organization in ancient feudal society of China, dated back in the late Tang and Five Dynasties, flourished in the Song, Ming, and was popular in Qing Dynasty. It lasted for thousands of years in the history of China and has made an major contribution to ancient education and culture in China.Located in the southwestern frontier of China, Guangxi was poor in transportation and economy, but there has a long history in education. The central government has paid attention to this area, economy and eithic integration have speed up there and Central China Culture has spread out since the South Song dynasty. As a result, academy was flourishing in Guangxi. It has experienced eight hundred years from the Southern Song dynasty to the Republic of China. The academy system has a golden time in the Qing dynasty, academies have spread all over Guangxi and contributes a lot to culture and education.In the late Qing dynasty, China has experienced years of social unrest and the great social transformation. Western culture flooding into the ancient country and shocking the foundation of China. The academic system of Guangxi has its internal abuse and could not meet the needs of social development. Thus the Qing government issued an imperial edict about the reform of academic system. Guangxi responded well. The academies in provincial capital have replaced by new-style schools. Since then the reform has spread out the whole Guangxi and new-style school system has built up in a short time. In November of 1903, the Qing government promulgated Some articles of association,which made the detailed rules in course content, curriculum, examination, management. Some articles of association guided the reform and promoted the new-style school expanding.The reform of academic system of Guangxi in late Qing dynasty has its own specials. The reform focused on new-style school and new course content, new ways of examination and new management methods has popped up in the reform.
