Johann Baptist vanhal (Johann Baptist Vanhal,1739.5.12-1813.8.20), was a composer born in a peasant family in Bohemia, Nechanice, a northern city of the Czech in the 18th century.The composer composed concerto for many musical instruments in his life, but he only created the《Concerto in D major》 for Double Bass. He is a landmark figure, having a far-reaching influence on the double bass.This paper is divided into three chapters, discussing Vanhal’s double bass《Concerto in D major》. The author illustrates the importance of the concerto from its structure analysis and playing techniques. The first chapter is an illustration of Vanhal’s life, his music style and status;the second chapter is an analysis of concerto ’s three movements, from about the musical form structure to the tonal characteristics of the Concerto;The third chapter is a further detailed analysis of the performance characteristics of the concerto with experience obtained in the performance practices; The last part is the conclusion of the article.
