As the first novel of Coetzee,Dusklands is Consists of Vietnam plans and The Narratives Of Jacob Coetzee. One of the story happened in America in the 20th century,and the other is in south Africa in the 18th century.The common madness images and madness narratives is the bridge which connect these two tests,expressing the auther’s reflection and doubt on the Colonial violence and power discourses.This paper mainly use research methods such as Narrative criticism,culture study,society-history criticism,text analysis,to discuss the images and narratives of madness, and its cultural meaning in Dusklands.This paper is divided into three parts. The first part is the introduction, mainly puts forward the research problem, the definition of related concept,the research situation analysis, and research methods and the place of innovation.The second part is the mainly part of this paper. It is divided into three chapters.The first chapter analyze the mad behavior of Eugene Dunn and Jacob Coetzee.Through their exemplification in the text,we could learn their unique madness feature and the reason why they become mad.The second chapter mainly analyze the method of lunatic narration,mainly from the narrator, narrative method and narrative voice.The first quarter analyze the unusual narrative perspective and multiple narrators;The second quarter analyze the parody of diary writing and memoirs.The third quarter analyze the Dialogic voices and Miscellaneous Narrative in lunatic narration.The third chapter study the cultural meaning of lunatic narration in Dusklands..The first quarter discusses the direct contact with the body and trauma;In the second quarter,the auther expressed his doubt on the history writing, Empire mythology and the theory of civilization savage.Finally is the conclusion part, pointing out the primary intention in this paper.The madness images and madness narratives in Dusklands,are not the form innovation of Coezee.Under the background of post-colony and Postmodern,it expresses Coetzee’ cultural thinking of traditional Literature and the spirits of free talk.
