China’s National Image In The Eyes Of Thai Students In Yunnan

Considering the results of former researchers, we can find that normative research technique has often been adopted concerning the research of China national image. And the research perspective is mainly from the government and the media. This paper, however, adopts quantitative and qualitative to study China national image in the perspective of Thai students. The related research contents cover various aspects such as Chinese politics, economy, culture, society etc. This paper also studies on influencing factors to China national image for Thai students in Yunnan Province. I understand China national image of Thai students who are studying in Yunnan Province through document research, questionnaire and interview. This article analyzes related theory of national image on the basis of document research and designs a questionnaire which could be used for collect data. Further investigation and interviews have been carried out to Thai students who are studying in some universities in Yunnan.According to the survey, Thai students in Yunnan Province believe that China is a country which is economically rising, culturally attractive. They also think that Chinese government has powerful diplomatic capability and keep optimistic on China’s future development. In their view, Chinese are friendly, hospitable and helpful. And they have better impression on China after they came here. But there are still negative evaluations to China. For example, Chinese government corruption is serious; Chinese don’t pay attention to hygiene and show bad manners; environment pollution is serious; there is great gap between rich and poor and also there are so many counterfeit and shoddy products and so on. The factors on Chinese evaluation for Thai students in Yunnan are mainly influenced by cross-cultural adaptation, different spreading routes, religious and also affected by their major, gender as well.Currently, interpersonal communication has become the complementary way to mass communication and received much concern. It is the efficient way to shape national image, and overseas students are a group which should not be ignored in shaping national image in foreign countries. Related department in China should make use of this group as well as multilateral coordination to create more ways for overseas students to understand China better. Help overseas students to conquer the problem of cross-cultural adaptation to fit in China better. This is so much helpful to shape China national image well.
