The Shape On National Images Of Chinese Films In New Century

Films always stand for an identity card of a modern country, which to some extent,influence the world’s cognition and impression about the country. In the information age, there is no doubt that the image of a country is not only objective but also indispensable with various media and literary works, especially films. In the new century, the screen image of China, as an epitome of Chinese national image, mirrors the profound modernizing evolution of Chinese spirit, and reflects the new development of democratization in search for new social system. So national image,especially shaped by films, not only plays a key role in improving the cultural soft power of a country, but also has a subtle impact on its sustainable development.Therefore, the previous seemingly abstract and theoretical analysis about national image through films is now becoming a practical problem which concerns everyone in examining all the pertinent issues: redefining and exploring the Chinese images and their expressions, generations of these symbols in films, modeling of national images through films in Chinese modernization, cultural imagining and depicting in the intercontexts of the global-local and conventional-modern discourses. Thus, in this multi-axiological world, necessity arises for film as a medium to construct a good image both domestically and internationally; and to achieve this, film makers need to explores ways to tell story in light of Chinese Dream, thus constructing our national image and promoting our national identity and cohesion, and to set agenda and state our position through film with consciousness and self-confidence in the whole international context.
