The Research On The Use Of Dialect In The Changsha Huagu Drama

Dialects, as variants of languages, carry rich regional culture and has unique expressive power. With the nation carrying out protection of intangible cultural heritage for the excellent traditional culture, the inheritance and development of Changsha Huagu Drama are revitalized.Changsha Huagu Drama is sang in Changsha dialect and full of the flavor of Hunan Region. This paper provides a systematic research into the phenomenon of dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama, integrating dialectical theory with the practice of Huagu Drama. It mainly studies the use of Changsha dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama, especially the strategy of application of dialectical elements to the programs and its expressive function. It also attempts to discuss the rationality and limitations of the use of dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama.The thesis is divided into the following six parts:I Introduction briefly introduces the origin, development and innovation of Changsha Huagu Drama and its distribution, list of plays and music for voices. It reviews the research on traditional Chinese opera and language, Hunan Huagu Drama and Changsha Huagu Drama,illustrates the contents and significance this research, explains the methods, procedure of this research and the corpus sources, and lists the phonetic system of Changsha dialect.II The General Situation of the Use of Dialect in Changsha HuaguDrama. This part analyzes the causes and characteristics of the use of dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama, the differences between dialectical script language and stage language, and the rationality and limitations of the use of dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama.III The Use of Speech Sounds of Dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama and Its Expressive Function. This part studies the following aspects of Changsha Huagu Drama: the phonetic system; the differences between the phonetic systems of Changsha Huagu Drama and Changsha dialect and the reasons for the differences; the relation between the tune of the of Changsha Huagu Drama and the tones of Changsha dialect; its pronunciation, articulation and rhymed ending of the singing of Changsha Huagu Drama, its rhythmical and spoken dialogues, its peculiar rhythm and stresses, decorative sounds, rhyming, and assonance.IV The Use of Vocabulary Words of Dialect in Changsha Huagu Drama and Its Effects. This part gives a detailed analysis of the use and effects of nominal, verbal, adjective and numerical words and slangs in Changsha Huagu Drama.V The Use of Dialectical Rhetorical Devices in Changsha Huagu Drama and Its Effects. The rhetorical devices mainly include metaphor,parallelism, hyperbole, and the use of pun.VI Conclusion summarizes the main arguments and innovations of this paper and points out the limitations and issues that can be further explored.
