Solfeggio is a fundamental course and one of its main purposes is to develop the inner ear through an aural training curriculum.This study examined the importance of developing the inner ear, since it is intricately related to musicianship, and how to develop the inner ear by way of musical activities.In particular, an analysis of 《Music for Sight Singing》,an American solfeggio textbook, reveals new findings on how to use sight singing in order to develop the inner ear.Sight singing is an important part of the aural training curriculum. Answering these two questions, "What to sing?" and "How to sing?" directly impacts student progress. This study included an overview of the teaching material.contents and editorial choices employed in 《Music for Sight Singing》.In particular.it focused on the curriculum characteristics concerning developing the inner ear- the comprehensive aural training which is indispensable to music education, and examined new teaching philosophies and methods. The last part of this study discussed curriculum usage as it relates to practical classroom experience. It explored how the teaching principles in (Music for Sight Singing)) could be applied in real life situations so that Chinese solfeggio can continue develop, generating new curriculum with fresh inspiration for further study.
