With the popularity of imaging technology and media, this technology is no longer just belonged to the expressions of mainstream public, the minority which being photographed for a long period of time began to pick up the camera, they shoot and create their own videos as an local culture holders.“The Grandmother ’ s House Leaves the Village ” shoot by Erqing in Da Luoshui village of Lugu Lake in Yunnan Province, which is the local culture holder using modern imaging technology to express their own culture ’ s adaptation and cultural choice. It is the typical Visual Anthropology documentary film. This essay is based on the four version of this film, which are “Pinchu and the Grandmother’s House”,“Yimi away from home”, “the Grandmother’s House Leaves the Village”and“the Grandmother’s House Leaves the Village”which screened on the program "Walker" of China Travel Channels. Combined with the long fieldwork in Lugu Lake,the author try to explore the Mosuo cultural matters. On this basis, concentrate on the meaning of the“ Grandmother’s House”in Mosuo cultural trait and cultural change.On the one hand, the author try to analysis the movie from three visual angle :“as the choice of local culture holders”,“as the choice of presenting the image to the others”and “ the culture choice of others from outside ”. On the other side, take the“Grandmother’s House” as an object of study,the author plan to analysis this meaning from the external structure,internal structure and "the life and death gate of Mosuo culture". Finally, I focus on the view of visual anthropology, combining "the moment" of modern culture, to describe briefly the idea of protection and development in Mosuo area.On the research path, the author followed the study line of visual anthropology and visual aesthetics, carried on the main fieldwork place: the Da Luoshui and Li Jiazu village. Carrying on the other four Grandmothers House which around Lugu Lake. Combined with the point, line and surface of the research methods, the author reached the main and secondary distinction, the breadth and depth of unity.In the research perspective, the author try to start from the basic image of the four versions of the film, and to compared the differences of four visions. From the reseach methods, we can see the Mosuo producer makes the great efforts to combine the inner concept with the expression of outside culture and society, which based on the four versions in this film. Therefore, this essay has a certain theoretical and practical value.
