Multi-angle Investigation Of "Yi Mian P, Yi Mian Q"

Parallel complex sentences as one of the most important issues in modern Chinese grammar study, have received a lot of concerns. There are also a lot of books and articles about the parallel complex sentences and their associated words. But the associated words mostly could not escape being regarded as subsidiary status of the parallel complex sentences, and could not be studied as an independent linguistic phenomenon. Therefore, this article, by collecting a large corpus, independently studies the discourse construction of "Yi Mian P, Yi Mian Q" on the basis of previous studies.The whole paper is divided into six parts. The first part, the introduction part, narrates the purpose and significance of this study. As well as the research status, research methods and the sources of the corpus are involved. The second part overall observes the usage of "Yi Mian P, Yi Mian Q". This section introduces the various parts of speech of "Yi Mian" in modern Chinese, and focuses on the usage of the conjunction. The third part analyzes the syntax and semantics features of "Yi Mian P, Yi Mian Q" in details, including the relationship between subject and associated words in the position, the enumerations of its predicate types and equipping ways, the analysis of common verbs, and the investigations of the logical semantic relations between P and Q. The fourth part, discusses whether the order between P and Q can swap or not, which is controversial among academics. Based on the discourse knowledge and the three plane theory, this paper draws a conclusion. The fifth part, comparatively studies the discourse construction of "Yi Mian P, Yi Mian Q’\"Yi Bian P, Yi Bian Q" and "Yi Fang Mian P, Yi Fang Mian Q", and finds out the similarities and differences. The sixth part sums up the contents of the whole paper, and points out the innovation and shortcomings.Goals of this study:to get rid of the drawbacks of traditional perspective, to restore the complex sentences to discourse, to discuss the discourse construction of "Yi Mian P, Yi Mian Q" from the perspectives of syntactic, semantic and pragmatic planes, to use the small triangle theory to analyze its similar sentences "Yi Bian P, Yi Bian Q" and "Yi Fang Mian P, Yi Fang Mian Q", and to solve the problem of easily be confused, in order to provide some reference for the follow-up study. This article collects corpus with the analysis of some special usage.
