The Meaning And Usage Of "Shang Mian" And "Xia Mian" And Reflections On Teaching Chinese As A Foreign Language

“Shang mian(??)”and“Xia mian(??)”is a pair of compound words of locality.They are one of the basic grammatical items that must be mastered by Chinese learners.“shang mian”and“xia mian”is also a pair of polysemous words that has both of basic usage and extended usage.Their syntactic functions are rich and exists asymmetry characteristics,at the same time,“xia mian”is a textual conjunction.So I suggest that the teaching methods of their meanings and usages are decomposed for many parts.We can arrange them to teach at different stages and put forward specific teaching methods on their syntactic functions and symmetry characteristics.Based on teaching Chinese as a foreign language,my paper discusses the meaning,usage,syntactic functions,dictionary definition of “ shang mian” and “xia mian”,the usage of foreign students,interpretation of the situation of teaching materials and teaching approach.The first chapter is prolegomenon.It introduces the study cause,the study meaning of the subject,the subject,the research present situation,studying processes and the data sources.The second chapter analyzed the teaching situation about “shang mian” and “xia mian”,including the definition situation of dictionary,the teaching situation of Chinese teaching materials and the using situation of foreign students.The third chapter summarized the types of errors and the reason for errors of foreign students based on their using situation of “ shang mian” and “xia mian”.The fourth chapter make comments and suggestions on “ shang mian” and “xia mian”what depend on their meaning,usage,syntactic functions and the textual characteristics of“xia mian”.
