The focal point for the paper is the significance of the lack of attention paid to the music business during Ming dynasty. The thesis unfolds in four organized parts. It starts with a short introduction of what is the music economy of music departments and goes on to discuss the changes that took place in music institutional arrangements, which leads to the feature of management functions and then ends with conclusion related to contemporary music industry. The thesis aims to reveal what makes Ming music so special, and what Ming music expresses and catalyzes secular with the economic development of the time. This is a profound question, and is well presented with numerous Ming writings includes official documents and non-official writings by novelists and poets, strongly proves her view of Ming music’s transition in royal court and its influence to folk music. In sum, the dissertation fills a need of discussing the new pattern of music management in ancient China, it is an inspiring finding for those who are interested in studying ancient music industry, with the goal of shedding light on social development and music history.
