With the advent of the information age, the rapid development of mobile Internet, the fast expansion of the city, and the increasingly diversified social labor, people’s time frames are gradually fragmented. This phenomenon is termed as “pieces of time”. As a result, the corresponding information is also gradually divided into chunks of short, frequent fragments. The fragmentation of information not only facilitates the dissemination of news and knowledge, but also meets the demand of people to kill their fragmented time.At the same time, the trend of penetration of electronic information, and the popularization of 3C products such as mobile terminals, like iPhone, iPad, kindle, bring unprecedented challenges and threat to traditional paper reading media. Some has even suggested that the screen will eventually replace the books to be the major reading medium;however, the popularity of electronic media does not seem to hinder the continual growth of the traditional paper-based media. Reading activity is not only a thinking activity, but also a physical activity. More and more studies have shown that the form of paper books plays an important role in helping the adult brain to form a solid knowledge network. This work focuses on discussing the possibility of knowledge solidification through paper-based reading. Through literature review, the conceptual model approach, system analysis, observation, interviews, questionnaires and other research methods, quantitative and qualitative research are combined to comprehensively and objectively identify the problems, as well as to understand the problems more thoroughly and to search an entry point for research. By combining the features of paper books and electronic book reader, this work explores the product design of paper reading product within the background of the time fragmentation, so as to enhance the degree of acceptance of knowledge, and to facilitate in-depth reading. The work has both theoretical and practical significance.
