The Theory Of Material Imagination Of Bachelard

As a famous French scientific philosopher and literary theorist in the 20 th century, Gaston Bachelard(1884-1962)sets up his philosophical system on the basis of inheriting the tradition of French concept philosophy and using the Psychoanalysis, phenomenology and ontology for reference.He reinvest the imagination with material creatively,at the same time introduce the material imagination in the poetry criticism field.On the one hand the material on the one hand has a stipulation to imagination, it not only specified the direction of the imagination, and also some substance of imagination in order to it not to be transient,and can make the imagination keep deep, arouse the creativity of imagination.On the other hand the original matter which has the material imagination and dynamic imagination will be more clear and show more rich connotation.On the basis of the discovery of the relationship between matter and imagination which is mutually triggered and generated.Bachelard give up the work of strictly distinguishing between imagination, the object and self.Instead he focus on the poetry image(literature image)that is viewed the particular areas where the subject and object is mixture.And finally opened up a kind of very different poetic criticism path with the help of phenomenology.The paper can be divided into four parts. The Introduction Part mainly demonstrates the necessity and realistic significance of Bachelard’s poetics theory, through the interpretation his academic track, theoretical contributions, academic research value and the research status quo.The first chapter analyses the philosophical background of birth of Bachelard’s poetics thought:Firstly, his philosophical thoughts comes from the dialectical synthesis of two French philosophical tradition;Secondly,the method(such as dialectical, reflect on, mount the original proof) and achievement(such as "discontinuity" and "instant intuition" and "anti-realism")in the study of epistemology also profoundly affected the construction of his poetic system;And the propulsion of imagination philosophy is the direct ideological origin of the birth of Bachelard’s poetics thought. The second chapter expounds the architecture of material imagination of Bachelard, he emphasized the freedom of imagination at the same time its existence state that rooted in the material, the dreamer’s “cogito” and consciousness always "dragged behind the shadow of the material and the deep roots." The third chapter, regard the poetic imagery as the coreof the poetic theory, as an important medium of interpretation the poetic critical practice. This part illustrates the material poetic activities through the research of the relation between poetic imagination and four factors of literary. The conclusion part of this paper is an expectation that practical significance and aesthetic significance of the phenomenology poetics in the current literary critics and the life world.
