The survey and research at Binglingsi Grottoes started late, the scholars` studies of Binglingsi Grottoes focus on the caves of Northern Dynasties and the spreading of early Buddhism. But less in shape and type of Tang Dynasty except grotto history 、 religion culture and inscription and others.Only Dongyuxiang had a specialized paper on staging and type of statues of Tang Dynasty.There are 134 caves of Tang Dynasty in Binglingsi Grottoes, which account for some twothirds of the total caves. On the basis of Field trips and Collection of information, this thesis divides more complete caves and statues of Tang Dynasty by Archaeological Typology, according to shape and structure of caves, and dress 、posture and other criterion of statues. Then divide these caves and statues into four groups in terms of characteristics. In addition, contrast other regional related grottos of Tang Dynasty, refer to existing research results and combine with related literature, divide these four groups into three periods, the second could be divided into two stages. The subject matter and fresco is not in-depth study.In a word, the general development of Binglingsi Grottoes meet the regular pattern of Tang Dynasty, also has its geographical features. This thesis hopes to further explore the Grottoes` staging 、statues、 characteristics and evolution process subject matter of Tang Dynasty, on the basis of previous studies.
