This report discusses the E-C translation of Australian real estate advertisement according to the author’s translation practice. Based on the translation materials of the author and other colleagues, this report, applying case studies and comparative analysis, analyzes Australian real estate advertisement translation. The author summarizes the problems she had encountered during translation, and then proposes corresponding solutions under the guidance of functional equivalence theory to achieve equivalence between the source text and target text at lexical, syntactical and textual levels.Firstly, problems at lexical level mainly involve the improper translation of specialized words and inadequate translation of adjective modifiers. For specialized words, literal translation and free translation are employed to convey the content of ST to target readers. For adjective modifiers, meaning extension, translation of adjective modifiers by four-character phrases and Chinese reduplicated words are proposed to make the target text readable and attractive. Secondly, problems at syntactical level include structure transformation of long sentences and vagueness of elliptic sentences in translating. Division and reconstruction are solutions for translating long sentences, while amplification is for translating elliptic sentences. Thirdly, problems at textual level are incoherent information and unreasonable paragraphs arrangement in Chinese text. Information adjustment according to Chinese text is employed to keep the target text coherent, and rearrangement of paragraphs according to Chinese text is employed in order to make the translation clear and reasonable.
