This paper is a report on the translation project of Myth of the Social Volcano. The book mainly discusses the popular attitude of the Chinese people towards inequality issues and unequal distribution problems. Essentially, it is a research report which contains two parts and nine chapters. The author is responsible for the translation of the first five chapters of approximately fifty thousand English words. Inequality and unequal distribution are a popular but sensitive topic. Martin King Whyte, a famous expert on China and a sociology professor of Harvard University, conducted his first research in 2000, interviewing 757 residents of Beijing, second in 2004, conducting a national research. This book is a result of these two researches. While translating, the author encountered several difficulties, such as how to translate certain terminologies, professional words, abbreviations, long and difficult sentences and contents which have strong ideological features. But with the help of the Cohesion theory of Halliday, the Dynamic Equivalence theory of Nida and the Manipulation School theory, the author managed to finish the translation with satisfaction. This translation report is based on the translation experience of Myth of the Social Volcano. It is divided into four chapters, including task description, process description, case study and the conclusion. All the translation material is attached in the appendix.
