Christianity was introduced into China in the Tang dynasty and its name was Nestorianism at that time. In the more than one thousand years long history of missionary, it brings abundant documentation. Especially the text missionary strategy used in the Ming and Qing dynasties, it appears a large number of excellent missionary work. In addition to the historical and cultural value, some works also has a high literary value. The protestant missionary novels of nineteenth-century in China is a typical representative. From the first protestant Chinese missionary novel The Conversation between Two Friends of Zhang and Yuan written by William Milne(1785-1822) in 1819 to the Yin Jia Dang Dao written by Griffith John(1831-1932) in 1882, protestant missionaries in China write lots of novels. So the paper tries to use the space narrative theory, combing with three protestant Chinese missionary novels, concretely analyzing its features of space narrative, thus discover its literary value.At the same time, it should be noted that the protestant Chinese missionary novels in 19 th are the product of cultural adaptation strategy. These novels are written in colloquial language and connected with traditional Chinese novel. Given its specific missionary history background, significant differences between Chinese and western culture and being unearthed literature value, this paper analyzes the significance in comparative literature of the protestant Chinese missionary novels.The paper covers the following three parts. The first part is the introduction part.It comprises the purpose of the research, present research situation, innovative points and basic ideas to introduce the research background and lay the theoretical foundation. The second part is the main part and includes four chapters. The first,second and third chapter use the space narrative theory to analyze three protestant Chinese missionary novels named the Pilgrim’s Progress, the Terrible Red Dwarf and the History of Little Henry and His Bearer. The fourth chapter analyzes the significance in comparative literature of the protestant Chinese missionary novels.The third part is the conclusion part. It mainly summarizes the thesis content and further points out the features of space narrative of the protestant Chinese missionary novels in19 th. This novels’ s significance in comparative literature also cannot be neglected.
