Emerging from a tradtional county, the reforming policy in the late Qing dynasty accelerated Shanghai's social transformation. In that process, the spreading of Christianity and the establishment of churches were both greatly contributing to Shanghai's social restructure. It is more likely for scholars to see through the transformation of social structure and expansion of the built-up area in the Shanghai during its urbanization. The article also investigates those driving factors which lead to the spreading of Christianity in Shanghai.
