After the second opium war, missionaries of the Protestant began to enter the hinterland, and they expressed their interest in the Gansu province. This paper dedicated to describe the initiation and development of the Protestant in Gansu, from 1877 to 1920.In this period, three Missions entered Gansu; they were the China Inland Mission, the Scandinavian China Alliance Mission, the Christian and Missionary Alliance. In this time, Missionaries of the three Missions worked hard and made a great progress. Till 1920, there were 38 evangelistic Centers, 19 stations and 33 churches in the Gansu province. Though they were nothing for the southeast provinces, but compared with the local condition, it was an irradiant business.The first part explains why the author wants to do this study, and introduces the study results from the 1920s, the References, and so on. The second part is the overview of the Protestant spread in this area from 1877 to 1920. The third part analyses the missionaries, and detailed introduces several of them. The forth part introduces the missionaries' activities in the Moslems and the Tibetans. The fifth part details the medical, education and the salvation career that the Missions done. The last part summarizes the entire paper, and makes an impartial analysis of the Protestant in the Gansu province.
