Product instruction offers people necessary introduction of the product, thus playing an important role in people’s daily life. In today’s globalized world, its translation study is of vital significance. Based upon the author’s personal practice of E-C translation of BlackBerry Passport Smartphone User Guide (Excerpts), feasible strategies and skills for translating product instructions are explored herein from the perspective of Skopostheorie.The report consists of four parts. Part One analyses the original text, including its characteristics in vocabulary and sentences. What’s more, an outline of preparations before the translation practice is presented. Part Two provides the theoretical basis, illustrating functional Skopostheorie and its relations with the project. Part Three presents case study of the project from two aspects, namely, translation of words, of sentences. Besides, specific translation strategies and skills are discussed, including literal translation, omission, sentence division and combination, adjustment and some others. Part Four concludes the translator’s thoughts and the inspiration to other translation in the same field.Based on the analysis of the original text, the report analyses the application of Skopostheorie to product instruction translation, exploring and putting forward some practical translation strategies and skills, which are derived from the Skopos, Coherence and Fidelity rules of the theory. It demonstrates the guidance of the theory to product instruction translation. It is hoped that the report can shed some light on translation in the same field in the future.
