As one kind of instructions, traditional Chinese medicine instructions not only have the general features of them, but also have their unique language style. On one hand a high qualified translation version can deliver the original information of instruction, and on the other hand it has the function of publicity. Therefore, more and more attention has been focused on the translation of TCM instruction. However, the present situation of translating traditional Chinese medicine instructions reveals the major form of literal translation, which has led to narrow readability, difficulty for comprehension and, worst of all, for exportation of traditional Chinese medicine, In light of this, TCM instruction translation strategies are discussed in the paper from the theory of skopostheorie integrated with the influence on translation caused by the psychology of consumers. Skopostheorie has provided a new perspective for translators. Hans J. Vermee’s three rules-skopos rule, coherence rule, fidelity rule and Christine Nord’s documentary translation and instrumental translation have presented new ideas for translators. According to the ideas of Skopostheorie, the main content of TCM instruction is discussed in the paper, and translation strategies are also presented.
