Based on the theories of the nature of language, the nature of communication, communicative competence, target language input and output, and humanism, the research is oriented to prove the integration of college oral English teaching in virtual and physical classroom is a more effective way to improve learners' communicative competence compared with college oral English teaching (COET) on web. 62 Chinese freshmen of non -English majors were asked to finish the questionnaire to show their different attitudes towards the different COET methods and they are put in two different classes respectively—College Oral English Teaching on web (the control class) and College Oral English Teaching in Integrated class (the experimental class). The following major findings are obtained with the employment of the powerful SPSS software. In general, both the two kinds of COET methods have enabled the subjects to make some improvement in their communicative competence after being exposed to different oral English teaching environments.. However, the subjects in the experimental class have made greater improvement after three months' treatment no matter in their comprehensive communicative competence or in the aspects of accuracy, size and coherence, logic, and the auxiliary of nonverbal language. In other words, as far as linguistic knowledge is concerned, no distinctive differences can be seen between the performances the subjects have made in the two oral classes due to their adequate linguistic input whereas a big distance between them can be seen clearly in terms of nonlinguistic skills. To be specific, 1) the experimental class (the integrated class) has enhanced the learners' language accuracy more effectively in the aspects of pronunciation and intonation, although the control class (COET on web) has enabled the subjects to make certain improvement in terms of language accuracy. 2) From the angle of size and coherence, the experimental class is not superior to the control class. Both the subjects in the two classes have made improvement in the ability of expressing themselves in complex sentences logically almost to the same extent. 3) After three-month exposure to different COET methods, a big distance between the improvements in flexibility and appropriacy made by the subjects in the two different classes can be seen clearly. The subjects in the experimental class have developed the ability of expressing themselves more flexibly and appropriately. 4)...
