Varieties of painting schools, such as Miantang, Qinzi, Gachi and so on, were formed in the development process of Tibetan art, on account of the subjective and objective factors, for instance, the differences of regions and aesthetic appreciation. Miantang is considered to be the most representative for the current situation and the influence among the kinds of painting schools. Miantang school produced in the middle of the 15 th century, it absorbed a lot of artistic factors of Han Nationality’s Buddha paintings on the basis of Tibetan Nepalese style and the Jiwu Gangba style. There were various subsystem genres of painting appeared in the internal system of Miantang school, since its emergence, development and mature. Genres in different areas absorbed different techniques and multiple styles. As Reogong region of Amdo located in the sino-tibetan border area, it was influenced by the religious painting factors of Hehuang district of Han and mainland, formed Reogong genre during Miantang school’s transmission to the east. Reogong genre assimilated the merits like Qutan Temple frescoes, and reserved the pure and profound of Miantang school in central Tibet at the same time. This article takes Reogong and Weizang genres in Miantang school as examples, comparing the two genres in different areas by their formation, development, local features and the current situation respectively, analyzing the similarities and differences of them as well.
