The Translation Report Of “Trends And Patterns In Foreign Trade In Central Asian

The source text of the report is a part of Trends and Patterns in Foreign Trade of Central Asian Countries, written by Roman Mogilevskii, University of Central Asia,which illustrated the trends and patterns in foreign trade of Central Asian countries during the period 2000-2010. The translator’s task is to translate 3.2.4 to 4.3 into Chinese and composes a translation report on the basis of the translation. During translation the translator adopts E. A. Nida’s “dynamic equivalence” as the theoretic basis guiding the whole translating process. “Dynamic equivalence” targets at the closest natural equivalence and emphasizes on readers’ response, in other words, it is the translator’s responsibility to convert the deep structure of the source text into the surface structure of the target language. Combining with theory, the translator analyzes the difficulties and key points from aspect of lexical, syntax, text and culture;what’s more, discusses translating strategies and skills, for instance, conversion,amplification, combination, recasting and so on. Ultimately, by sorting out the key points and difficulties and summarizing the strategies and skills during translation, the translator sums up the experience and the problems to be solved during translation.The report comprises five parts: Chapter I: brief description of the translation project, including its background, purpose, meaning and content; Chapter II: brief description of the translating process, including pre-translating preparation, translating process and post-translating work; Chapter III: description of theoretic basis---“dynamic equivalence”; Chapter IV: analysis of specific cases in the process of translating guided by “dynamic equivalence”, which is the main body of the report. In this part, effort is made to reveal the function of “dynamic equivalence” in terms of lexical, syntax, text and culture, meanwhile discuss the skills used to attain “the closest natural” translation; Chapter V: conclusion including summary and reflection of the whole translation process: experience obtained in translation and problems to be solved in translation, furthermore, difficulties caused by “negative transfer”.
