A Report On The English To Chinese Translation Of Engineering Tender In The Perspective Of Functional Equivalence Theory

This report is based on the author’s practice of translation “The Bid Document Technical Rules to Tender of Coke Oven No.2 Reconstruction of ESCo. Esfahan Steel Company. Since China’s attending the WTO, more and more Chinese companies take part in the construction of international project, especially in the Middle East and Africa, therefore, higher and higher demand has come to the translation of relevant bid documents and the quality of these translations also increases a lot. In this translation, the bid documents include the bidding document, technical rules to tender and other releva nt documents, covering wide area, and the author translated mainly the technical rules, which contain the announcements before the project, technical requirements during the project and the relevant standard after the project.In this translation report, the author firstly gives a brief introduction to the whole translation task, including the features of the translation text and the target readers; secondly, the author introduces the dynamic equivalence theory; thirdly, under the construction of the dynamic equivalence theory, the author analyzes the problems in the text from lexical and syntactical levels. This translation text is a formal text, which contains many formal statements, thus in the translation, special attention should be paid to the translation of these statements, furthermore, this text is also a pragmatic text, so in the translation the function and role of the original text should be transferred properly. Therefore, the author analyzes how to achieve cultural equivalence in the translation. Finally, the author summarizes problems and experiences in the translation of this text.The author hopes that through this translation, the author can have a further understanding of the translation of such text, and problems met in the future study or work can be solved properly.
