This thesis is about the E-C translation of English complex sentences. It is grounded on the translation experience of Language: The Cultural Tool, an academic writing that frequently applies complex sentences to elaborate the author’s ideas. Therefore, an appropriate translation of these complex sentences plays a key role in guaranteeing the translation quality of this book. With a comparative analysis of English and Chinese syntactic differences from the perspectives of the sentence constructing strategies, the syntactic structure and the semantic focus, this thesis explores various difficulties that may hinder the correct understanding and translation of English complex sentences. In addition, certain strategies and skills that have been successfully applied in translating the complex sentences taken from Language: The Cultural Tool are listed in the thesis so as to help other Chinese translators to tackle the translation of English complex sentences. |
