This practice report is based on the author’s translation of a social science work, The Warrior Ethos. The author noted that major difficulties in this project lie in the lack of cognitive frames for the culture-specific items in the target culture, which blocks readers’ understanding and poses great challenges for translation. In light of the importance of culture-specific items in culture spreading, this thesis, under the guidance of the frame theory, puts forwards three modes to construct cognitive frames for culture-specific items, namely intra-textual mode, extra-textual mode and the combination of the two modes. On this basis, the thesis provides approaches to the translation of culture-specific items in the book in an effort to better share ideas from the source text, and shed light on future translation of similar genre.
