Building An Audio Achive Of Hlersu Subdialect Of Eshan Yi Language

Yi ethno-group of Yunnan Province has complex branches where there exist many dialects. Shansu subdialet is a language spoken by Shansu branch Yi. It is a subdialect of Southern Yi Dialect. Because Yi people in Yunnan Province lives scattered in/with multi-ethno groups, speakers of many of Yi dialects and subdialects continuously decreading. And some of the dialects become in danger of loss. The abundant dialects are valuable social and cultural resource of Yi people. The documentation, description and archiving of Yi dialects are an important way to protect and rescue minority language resource. The task of this dissertation is to make a description of Shansu subdialect, process the audio recordings and documentationed data, and tries to create a digital archive of Shansu subdialect audio resource.This dissertation contains three chapters as follows: Chapter One introduces humanity and geography of Eshan County Yi dialects, and outlines the researching status of Eshan dialects of Yi language. In this chapter, I also introduce the achievement of language audio archive building in or out of China, and elaborate the significance and value of building language audio archives.In Chapter Two, I make a comprehensive description of Shansu Subdialect from phonological, lexical and grammatical aspects. It corrects some errors in previously existed books and papers on the description of Shansu Subdialet, e.g, some rhymes are missed. I have made a table of initial-rhyme-tone spell matching relation, and sorted and classified 2000 words according to the matching relation, which is not ever done by previous researchers of Southern Yi dialects.In Chapter Three, I put forward the basic principles and ideas of creating Shansu subdialect audio archive, explain the workflow, and some issues of practical and technical processing, such as language data collecting and recording, data file structure and organization, data types and constuents of language archives, metadata, output of the web visualization of data. In this dissertation, I also give a sample of audio archive of Shansu subdialec.
