In recent years, the world has undergone regional hot spot issues one after another. Internationally, the controversial political Myanmar issues are widely discussed and analyzed. The Myanmar issues are the results of various powers’ participation, including China’s influence. To translate the biographical novel of Aung San Suu Kyi, who is currently one of the most influential political leaders of Myanmar is beneficial for us to comprehend the hot issues and make wiser decisions in the future. This is an English-Chinese translation report on the second, third, fourth and fifth chapters of THE LADY—— AUNG SAN SUU KYI, NOBEL LAUREATE AND BURMA’S PRISONER. This report explores the translation principles and strategies in translating the biography with the guidance of Peter Newmark’s translation theories.Hopefully it will provide some applicable approaches that can be used in translating biographical literature like the novel. This report is divided into two chapters. The first chapter presents the source text and the translation. The second chapter has four parts. The first part introduces the theme, style, the significance and the requirements of the translation task. The second part explores Peter Newmark’s relevant translation theories, such as semantic translation and communicative translation, text functions and the applicability in the translation task. Moreover, the third part focuses on the difficult points during the translation process and relevant translation strategies that could be used in specific contexts. The fourth part makes a summary of the report, pointing out the limitations of the translation and revealing the questions and obstacles which are not thoroughly solved in the translation process, and giving some honest advice for translators as well as scholars. This translation practice is also an important process for the thesis paper writer to lay a solid foundation for future translation career.
