Xu Gan(171—218), who styled himself as “Weichang”,is from Beihai county. He is one member of Jian An Qi zi. Although he was born in the Han anarchy, his thought is not negative. He believes in Confucianism and entries into the society actively. He once went all out to serve Caocao, but not lucky enough to be put in an important position. ZhongLun, whichtookXugan a lot of time and energy, is the key to study his thought and literature. However, it hasn’t commanded due attention. This article is withZhongLun at the core, both thoughts and literature involved, mainly discusses the three aspects of content whose study is weak, hope there will be a certain value.First, Xugan’s thoughts embodies the inheritance and return of Pre-Qin Confucianism. In the Pre-Qin Confucianism within the concept of choice, Xugan is in favour of Xuncius’ s more practical thoughts. On this subject, though previous studies have pointed out, but not a detailed analysis. So three aspects were put forward to demonstrate the inheritance relationship between Xugan and Xuncius in this article, which including philosophy antilogy, ethical and legal thoughts and education thoughts.Second, the social critical trend of thought in the end of Han dynasty is a transition link between Confucius studies in Han dynasty and Weijin metaphysics. As a member of the social critical trend of thought in the end of Han dynasty, Xugan makes a contribution to the issue as names and actuality, the issue of ability and morality and the issue of ins and outs. Therefore, this part is to show the times value of Xu Gan’s thought.Third, Xugan praises Confucianism highly in his lifetime and his literary creation also can’t leave the guidance of Confucianism thought. Only starting from the ideological level, we can have a better understanding on Xugan’s creations. This article is divided into three relatively independent parts, but the main idea is to indicate that Xugan is in an era which social, ideological, cultural and mentality of the scholars are changing. In this change, though Xugan has to keep pace with the Times, but he also has the conservative side. However, as a whole, Xugan is not a fossil Confucian scholar, we can see an effort to restore the ancient Confucianism spirit in him.
