Tributary system is formed in Qin Dynasty, after several decades the tributary system continued to develop and improve, during the Ming Dynasty reached its peak. Ming Central Government turned tribute to trade, especially in Tibetan area for religious leaders and officeholders, also the tributary trade became their new ways of dealing with ethic groups around them and foreign countries. There are very few studies on the Ming Dynasty’s tributary especially between the Ming government and Tibetan, based on this reason the paper is formed.Political significance of Tribute: I. Tibetan religious leaders and officeholders pays tribute to Ming central government not only for the stable development of Tibetan areas but also to maintain the stability of the Ming Dynasty’s western frontier. II. Tibetan religious leaders and officeholders pays tribute to Ming central government was showing that Tibet was part of Ming Dynasty.Economic significance of Tribute: Tibetan religious leaders and officeholders pays tribute to the Ming Central government was based on the economic benefits. I. The tributary indirectly protected the mainland’s economic development, formed Tea-horse Trade, on other hand enriched and developed the Tibetan economy. II. Tribute promote growth of cities and towns en route. III. Tibetan religious leaders’ pay tribute to Ming government increased monasteries’ income.Cultural significance of Tribute: I. The tribute promote and spread Tibetan Buddhism’s influence in mainland China. II. The tribute between Tibet and Ming dynasty put forward cultural exchange especially on sculpture, architecture and painting. III. The tribute influenced science and technology in Tibet, particularly improved the Tibetan woodblock printing and porcelain production skill. IV. The tribute further promoted cultural exchange on the way of tributary.
