Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol(1809-1852), an influential writer of Russia in the first half of 19 th century, made great contributions to the development of Russian literature and the world literature. As we know, Gogol was very proficient in satire, so the style of satire became the most prominent character of his works. This dissertation took Gogol’s satirical style as the research object, using the method of literature research, textual analysis and comparative study, the author not only focused on Gogol single works, but made a comprehensive and overall analysis of all his works, so as to explore the value and influence of his satirical style.First of all,the author generally summarized the feature of Gogol’s works and generalized the stage characteristics of his satirical style. Gogol formed his satirical style because of exterior and interior factors. Objectively, he was influenced by the environment of the times and Pushkin. Subjectively, his family background and personal life experience created different writing style in different life stages. On general, he gradually formed the critical realistic style in his works.Gogol’s satirical style was revealed by creating typical characters, setting dramatic plot, eerie expression, and diverse language skills. In his works, the characters were classified in different sorts, but all of them were representative and typical. In the plot setting, Gogol used the method of "mistake", "discovery" and "sudden change", which formed a dramatic collision, causing satire. The characters, scenes and the story were full of fanaticism, so as to satire the ill and irrational society. In language features, Gogol made use of various language skills, such as contrast and exposed language, irony, hyperbole and other language style.Gogol’s satirical style not only brings laugh with tears to the readers, but also makes a great contribution to the development of literature.Moreover, his works and spirit is valuable even for the modern society. His style had a profound impact in Russia and Chinese literature. Taking Lu Xun as an example, the author analyzed the similarities and differences of their writing style. |
