Analysis On Costume Color Of Metropolis Films

This paper combines the author?s practical experience with film and television culture and analyzes the costume color of metropolis films from a macroscopic perspective with statement and microscopic perspective with film case. This paper ends with a personal practical study on costume colors of metropolis films. With costume color as a starting point, this essay firstly introduces the theory of costume color, which provides the theoretical basis for costume color in metropolis films. Starting with the costume color, this essay mentioned the theories of costume color, which provides the basics for the metropolis films. After that, this paper then analyzes costume color of metropolis films and the role of the costume color has played in metropolis films from three aspects, the type of metropolis films,the theories of color and the personalities of the director of this films, which aims to the general discipline for the costume color in metropolis films.The next part is to sum up the design method of costume color in metropolis films for all the learners, which are expounded from studying script,costume color conception and actors? trial assembly and adjustment. Finally, with the finding of the research, I was honored to be invited to be the designer of the film ?Happiness is Embarrassing?, in which, the theories was put in to practice and being testified.First of all, this paper analysis the costume color from two main aspects: the color of the costume and role that the costume color has been taken. There are mainly three aspects that will be discussed in terms of the costume.The first aspects is the basic characteristics of color and the general summary about costume. The second aspects isthe association of color, which is to introduce the basic property of color. The last aspect gives priority to visual psychology of costume color, analyzing the changing of warmth and coldness, the shift of weight, excitement and calmness caused by color. Therefore, it provides theoretical support for costume color in metropolis films. Further, the functions of costume color can be summarized in three aspects. The first function is to shape a character and personality and present the character to audiences. It could easily build and enhance character image, which cannot be realized by other means. The second function is visual function, that is, to demonstrate the character?s dispositions and fluctuation of inner world as well as establish the keynote and the style of the entire film. The third function is to create sensory function in film setting. The art of film creates ambience through time and space, the telling of story, original visual scene, design of audio system, characters? costume color and other choices.Moreover, the factors that affects the costume color in metropolis cities are summarized in mainly three aspects as well: the types of the films, the basic tone of the costume color in metropolis cities and the directors of the films. The relationship between costume color and metropolis film is that costume color should be consistent with metropolis films? keynote. Outstanding films not only have impressive plots, but also have costume color that matches the plot. Costume color does not merely exist in films, but strikes a chord with the setting, stage property and other co-existing colors. Only when costume color goes hand in hand with the film?s keynote will it enhance the atmosphere and underscore the theme of a film. Costume color is able to be expressed in metropolis films and collocation of costume color is most effective in portraying a character. Studying script should make the social background of the story,specific feature of the time,regional feature of that place and national folk custom clear.It is important to analyze the social background and identify the theme and expression style.The following three factors should be taken into consideration when conceiving costume color.The first thing to consider is to design the costume according to the daily wearing of the people living in metropolis cities in order to make the film more close to daily life. The second is to design costume color on the basis of character?s disposition.The costume serves to better manifest characters? characteristics and emotion and show time characteristic.Such design with a purpose is capable of attracting audiences? attention and bringing them to the setting.The third is to design costume color on the basis of external environment.Seasonal change can also affect people?s choice of costume color.Bright colors are preferable in scorching summer while mild and comfortable colors are more popular in winter, thus,costume colors are apparently partially seasonal.The forth one is to design costume color on the basis of major relationships and subordinate relationships.There are many character clues in a film.It is necessary to clarify major relationships and minor relationships,the differences between leading roles and supporting roles,overt sequence of events and hidden sequence of events,highlight the body of the story by means of color comparison and deepen the theme.This paper then elaborately expounds from the preparation and trial assembly adjustment.Only by doing every part well can the most suitable costume color be created,that highlights the film?s keynote and enlightens the theme.This paper sums up the creating procedures of costume colors in metropolis films and provide reference for later learners.Finally,the findings of this current research will be presented at the end, which bring the theories arguments into practices. The paper ends with the author?s practical experience of the film Happiness Is Embarrassing to further prove the viewpoints on costume analysis of metropolis films in terms of the script of the film and the costume. Based on the analysis and research of costume color in metropolis films, this paper brings forward several aspects that need improving, which includes the promotion of color connotation, the ability to handle film?s style and sense of responsibility. A practical costume study case in the end serves to further prove viewpoints on costume analysis highlighted in this paper.
