The Scholars’ Frontier Viewpoint In 1930s And 1940s

In modern times, China suffered a lot both at home and abroad. Chinese frontier has been changed from traditional changeable frontier district to an essential part of Chinese territory due to the law. With the influence of patriotism and nationalism, the research of frontier has been strengthened by academia since 1930 s, The academia is having on "frontier reconstruction" by narrating the history of frontier and researching the evolution of national history. Meanwhile, they put forward that Chinese nation is a national, it means that frontier is a very essential part of the country. Towards 1940 s,with the development of academic research, scholars made some changes in the view of frontier, they began to learn and research frontier by analising the border areas construction. Based on plenty of deep research, scholars approved the diversificaltion of Chinese nation firmly, they also put emphasis on the independence of national minority.Eventually, self-governing borderland viewpoints has been proposed.The thesis contains three parts: introduction, main part and conclusion. The part of introduction, it will explain the significance of the author chose the topic, the current research status and the contents and the methods of doing research.The main part includes three texts. In the first, the author accounts for the collapse of traditional Chinese frontier system. And it also tells the reader, with the influence of nationalism and national concept, how to form the elementary frontier viewpoints and how strengthen the management in border areas. In the second, the author explicates the understanding and research of the scholars in 30 s. Moreover, Ku Chieh-kang is taken as an example to analyze. The view presented in this text is that the frontier viewpoint is the concrete reflection of national territory concept. It belongs to geographic frontier concept, which emphasizes the unity of frontier and nation in politics and geography. In the third, the article maily discusses Wu Wenzao’s thoughts on the frontier affairs and the new trend for frontier affairs of the research within in academia. During this period,the nationalists subjected as leading force to further the perception of frontier. With adequate research and affirmative basis of geographical attributes, we shall acquire new insights from cultural and political perspectives. Thus, to enhance the political construction of the frontier.The conclusion part sorts the frontier viewpoint in modern times at macro level and summarizes the phasic characteristics of scholars in 1930 s and 1940 s.
