A Report On Translating Crossing Culture:Creating Identity In Chinese And Jewish American Literature

This report is about the English-Chinese translation of the first chapter and part of the second chapter of Crossing Culture:Creating Identity in Chinese and Jewish American Literature by American writer Judith Oster. The author describes a series of misunderstandings and behavioral, racial and cultural differences.The source text is an informative text, which is characterized by standard and rigorous wording, various professional terms and proper nouns, and a large amount of long and difficult sentences. Accordingly, the translator chooses the theory of Communicative Translation as guidance, adopting corresponding strategies to convey the information from the source text to the target concisely and logically.This translation report consists of four chapters. The first chapter is a description of the translation task, including an introduction to the translation task, the author of the original text, the purpose and significance of the translation report. The second chapter describes the translation process, the features of the source text, followed by the translation theory adopted in this report. It also analyzes challenges and difficulties in translating the source text and makes plans for the writing of the report. The third chapter illustrates the translation techniques and skills use to overcome the challenges and difficulties the translator encountered in the process of translation. The fourth chapter summarizes the experience and inspiration achieved from the translation practice.
