This thesis begins with the narration and analysis of the Trayvon Martin Casewhich happened on February26,2012. Professor Shi Yi’s theory of three stages isintroduced as theoretical framework. With latest statistics from the United StatesCensus Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, etc. the African Americans’ statusquo and evolution of government policies are researched. It is implicitly explainedthat racial discrimination in the U.S. cannot be eliminated. That the kernel of thedeeply rooted racial discrimination is the Whites elite class’s desires to maintain theirpower, the oppression on the blacks is not only relevant to racism. To realize the goal of this thesis, Professor Shi Yi’s theory of three stages isintroduced to explain the persistence and complexity of racism in the U.S. In thehistory of struggle against antiracism, racism has been evolving to fit theever-changing society. It has been not eliminated. On the basis of three stages theory, this thesis discusses the relation between Internal Colonialism and InstitutionalRacism. Furthermore, it discusses the relation between Cultural Pluralism andLaissez-Faire Racism. In the last chapter, economic, education, employment, healthand judicial data from various agencies are collected and analyzed. It is argued thatmost African Americans are living in a plight; after Affirmative Action, in spite ofcertain achievements, the color gap between blacks and whites is still wide.By researching, the thesis concludes that racial discrimination in the U.S. cannotbe eliminated under the advanced capitalism. The primary cause is White elite classwants to maintain its power. The racial oppression on the blacks is not only a racialproblem, but also a mechanism to maintain social stratification.
