In recent years, the English School has come into sight of the Chinese scholars who study the international relations. Its theoretical system and research methodology has exerted on the international relations research community a significant influence that can not be ignored. Martin Wight, one of the leading figures of the first generation of the English School, played a critical role in founding the School and shaping the tradition of its scholarship. Guided by the Marxist Dialectic Materialism and Historical Materialism, this thesis makes an overall analysis and an objective assessment of Wight's international political theories in the light of the main current perspectives of the West. The thesis employs such approaches as comparison, analysis and synthesis.The thesis is divided into seven parts. The Introduction mainly discusses the content, influence and realistic significance of Wight's international political theories. Also, this part briefs on the current researches of the Wight's theories, the originality of the thesis and its structure. The thesis also includes five chapters and a conclusion. Chapter One examines the sources of Wight's international political theories, including the influences exerted on the making of his thoughts both by his life experience and by other political theorists from the European and American countries. Chapter Two makes a detailed analysis of the system of Wight's international political theories including his thoughts on Christian theology and power politics, historical research of the system of states, the restructuring of the traditions of the international theory, his ethical thinking on the international theories, and his historical and philosophical methodology. Based on Chapter Two, Chapter Three summarizes three characteristics of Wight's international political theories: the power politics of Christian theology, a profound sense of history, and a strong moral sense.
