The United States was not only to increase the aid to Thailand, and to develop a policy on aid to Cambodia during the Eisenhower administration. The aid policy of American was indirectly impact on the Preah Vihear temple dispute of Thai-Cambodian, and accelerated the breakdown of Thai-Cambodian relationship. The aid policy of Eisenhower administration was based on the article that as a guide to dialectical materialism. The research methods adhere to the comparative study of the relevant national archives, combing the development of the Thai-Cambodian relations during the Eisenhower administration. The view of the article is that the aid policy of the Eisenhower administration intensified Thai-Cambodian conflict which had existed, and ultimately leading to breakdown between Thailand and Cambodia. It reflecting the plight of U.S. Cold War strategy through the perspective of the relationship between Thailand and Cambodia in Southeast Asia.The thesis is divided into six chapters in following:The preface describes the reason of the topic, current researches, theoretical, research methods, historical sources and the innovations of the paper.The first chapter summarizes for sovereignty over Preah Vihear temple, focuses on the Preah Vihear temple in the Thai-Cambodian bilateral disputes from1953to1962.The second chapter examines the aid policy of American to Thailand and Cambodia and the dispute of Preah Vihear temple from1953to1954. First of all, the Eisenhower administration changed attitude, and established the alliance to Thailand, which affected the attitude of Thailand towards Cambodia. Secondly, the chapter introduced the Eisenhower administration recognized the independence of Cambodia, and established the diplomatic relations with Cambodia. Meanwhile, it analyzes the attitude of the U.S. government during Thai-Cambodian dispute over the sovereignty of Preah Vihear Temple. The third chapter discusses the aid policy of American to Thailand and Cambodia and the dispute of Preah Vihear temple from1956to1958. Firstly, it points out the more closely relationship between the United States and Thailand during the mid-1950s. The Eisenhower administration considered Thailand that was an important strategic base to containment of Communism in Southeast Asia. Secondly, the chapter examines adjustment assistance that the U.S. government to Cambodia, and which affected the attitude of Cambodia towards Thailand. Finally, it is a detailed discussion the aid policy of the U.S. to Thailand and Cambodia and the impact of the assistance policies to the dispute of Preah Vihear temple.Chapter IV discusses the aid policies of American to Thailand and Cambodia, and the dispute of Preah Vihear temple from1958to1962. The chapter searches the development of the Thai-Cambodian relations and the dispute of Preah Vihear temple after1958. What’s more, it studied on the real elaborate of the U.S. aid to Thailand and Cambodia aid policy through the dispute of Preah Vihear temple.The epilogue extracts the main views of the article, pointing out the inadequacies of the article, and it could continuing to deepen the topic in future studies. Above all, the chapter discusses the impacts of the United States to Thailand and Cambodia from1953to1958, in which the relation of the Thai-Cambodian had gone establishment to breakdown. Secondly, it discusses the impact of the United States to the relation of Thai-Cambodian. In addition, it reviews the plight of U.S. Cold War strategy through the perspective of the relationship between Thai-Cambodian in Southeast Asia. Finally, conclusion as follows:the aid policy of the U.S. in the Cold War accelerated the relationship breakdown between Thailand and Cambodia.
