Mao Zedong and Mao Zedong Thought are hot research fields among western researchers these years. Many western researchers, such as Stuart R. Schram, Maurice Meisner, Ross Terrill were committed to Mao Zedong and Mao Zedong Thought, especially people’s democratic dictatorship, for many years and created a series of monographs. Different from our Chinese researchers, they employed a series of different study methods, such as comparative study method, psychological analysis method, version research method and history of thoughts research method to study people’s democratic dictatorship of Mao Zedong Thought and figured out some insightful new ideas and new evaluations, which may give a lot of inspiration and reference to our Chinese researchers. However, we must point out that among the opinions of those western researchers, there are some misreading on account of lots of reasons such as difference of the research position and intent, world outlook, methodology, limitation of available materials and ideology, complexity of the theory of people’s democratic dictatorship, ect. The representative misreading opinions include:Ⅰ. About the leadership of people’s democratic dictatorship-western researchers thought that Mao Zedong deviated from the orthodox ideas of Marx and he did not put his hope on the proletariate. Ⅱ. About the reliable strength of people’s democratic dictatorship-western researchers thought that Mao Zedong’s people’s democratic dictatorship theory was purely based on the peasantry. Ⅲ. About the state function of people’s democratic dictatorship-western researchers thought that Mao Zedong preferred dictatorship and overlooked democracy. Those kinds of misreading of Mao Zedong’s people’s democratic dictatorship theory include the main misreading among the western researchers which need we clarify. In brief, western researchers were lack of the overall comprehensive understanding of Mao Zedong’s theory of people’s democratic dictatorship. So their arguments often seemed partial which could not objectively reflect the essence and full view of Mao Zedong’s theory of people’s democratic dictatorship. If those biased arguments were not clarified in time, they would cause ideological confusion in China and bring adversely affect for our state of people’s democratic dictatorship. So this paper would try to clarify the misreading of western researchers though finding the underlying causes of those opinions and the crux of the problem. In this way, our Chinese researchers could struggle out from the misunderstanding of western researchers and make their arguments losing market all over the world. Furthermore, we would further research the "original truth" of Mao Zedong’s theory of people’s democratic dictatorship in order to restore its true features. This paper would deepen the study of this theory to illustrate the charm and vitality of people’s democratic dictatorship.
