Judith Butler, as the representative of the queer theory in United States and new left political theory scholar, her idea is radical avant-garde and spectacular. People usually keen to discuss her famous gender subversion and gender performance theory, but ignore her later thoughts-from subject to group and the other in social transformation. The idea of deconstruction of gender mainly comes from Foucault, but later she turned to Hegel’s concept of "recognition". Through a brand-new understanding of recognition, Butler reinterpreted the definition of social norm and standard, expanded the extension of feminist theory. This paper is divided into five parts. The first part introduces the development of Butler’s thought and research about her.The following parts focus on the change of her idea, that is from the gender subject theory to group and society, one can’t create gender alone, he/she is always going to make gender with the other. So the term of "sex" is inevitably comes from outside of itself, from the society, if we realized that our gender properties must be attached to the social norms. In this situation, the construction and gender theory is not enough to use. We must seek to concern about the ethics of the other, in order to investigate circumstances of human’s survival under the social norms. This is also for us to rethink the new perspective of recognition. The last part is to illuminate the essences of her works and the inspiration she brings to us.
